Phenomenal women honored for Women’s History Month
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Women and their resiliency were celebrated March 17 at UAMS’ annual Women’s History Month observance. Held in the Fred Smith auditorium at the Jackson T. Stephens Spine Institute, the lunchtime event honored 29 employees nominated as “phenomenal women” by their peers.

HWOA announced scholarship applications for Hispanics
SPRINGDALE, AR- The Hispanic Women’s Organization of Arkansas announces that the scholarship applications for 2011 are now available. HWOA offers scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each.
“Also, this year we will have scholarships from the Institute of Mexicans Abroad for up to $5,000 for students of Mexican origin who are in college and have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Parents can help keep bilingual child’s language skills over the summer
ROCKVILLE, MD -- Children from economically disadvantaged families are at great risk for falling behind in reading and language skills during the summer break from school.

North Little Rock students learn Spanish
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, AR-- The North Little Rock School District got six new teachers and all of them are teaching the same subject, Spanish.
For the first time, the district will be teaching all elementary students a second language. After months of no Spanish class, Josefina Loya's fifth graders still know the words.
Pike View and Boone Park elementary schools piloted a Spanish class last year. Loya says her students exceeded her expectation.

Chenal Elementary 4th Graders learn about entrepreneurship
LITTLE ROCK, AR – Students of 4th grade at Chenal Elementary learned entrepreneurial skills from guest speaker Maura Lozano-Yancy, founder of ¡Hola! Arkansas.
The students asked questions related to her experiences as a business owner and entrepreneur.
Lozano-Yancy is featured on the Arkansas Studies Social Studies 4th grade textbook on the Arkansas Entrepreneur Chapter along with Sam Walton, John Tyson, and John H. Johnson.

ESL students flock to optional summer school
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Summer school is often required for students who need to recover credit courses. But 35 students at Hall High School are enrolled in optional summer courses.
ESL (English as a Second Language) students are enrolled in Hall's optional ESL summer courses to learn English. They come from five countries and most are native Spanish speakers. Teachers say the students are less shy speaking English in the smaller classes.

Libraries to bridge cultures during Children's Day - Book Day celebration
CHICAGO, IL --As the nation's population continues to become more diverse, hundreds of libraries will showcase their multicultural programs and services this April 30th during national El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day). A Cessna 414 expands Pulaski Technical College's training fleet
LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Students in Pulaski Tech's Aviation Maintenance Technology program have another plane to train on now with the donation of a Cessna 414 to the college.
Danny R. Cook, president and chief financial officer of Unishippers of Arkansas, donated the1970 Cessna 414 Twin Turbo to the Pulaski Technical College Foundation. The twin-engine aircraft is valued at $250,000.
