LITTLE ROCK, AR -- A new sandwich, shaped like a heart, debuted, Thursday, October 28 at one Subway restaurant in the nation to raise funds for the Pulaski County division of the American Heart Association.
The “Hearty,” with its distinct look and ingredients, is the creation of Mauricio Aguilar, local Subway restaurant owner, as an answer to how he could turn his passion for the mission of the American Heart Association into a creative and heart-healthy way to give back.
The “Hearty” is a new, unique and healthy Subway sandwich (3 grams of fat) in the shape of a heart. This is an exclusive Subway offering that will only be available at the Subway store located on 11321 W. Markham St between Bowman and Shackleford across the street from Academy Sports.
The purpose of this campaign is, “to raise funds for the Central Arkansas American Heart Walk, for consumers to recognize that making wise food choices, like eating the “Hearty” sandwich with only 3 grams of fat, and exercising regularly are good healthy habits and to create more awareness about the different programs and campaigns offered by the American Heart Association,” said Lannie Cox, Communications Director for the AHA.
“I am passionate about fighting heart disease,” Aguilar said. “In 1978, my dad had a massive heart attack, living for an extra 30 minutes as he was rushed to the emergency room. He was 46 and the financial provider in the family. Heart disease brought tragedy to my mother, four siblings and me. The doctors told our family this misfortune could have been prevented if my dad had properly taken care of himself. How could I not do something?”
