LITTLE ROCK, AR - Arkansas turned into a Two-Party State over night. After November 2, Arkansas now has a majority-Republican congressional delegation. These are impressive news when you consider that in Arkansas, the Republican Party has been a minority for generations.

The political landscape of this Democratic state has changed. While Democrats still control majorities of the state offices and the state Legislature, the Republican candidates slashed the margins significantly.

Most of the country voted republican this year. Arkansas followed the trend.

The number of congressional seats, state offices and state legislatures now in the Republican Party hands can measure the gains.

Governor Mike Beebe easy reelection was seen as a rarity. Governor Beebe received 64.4 percent of the vote, making news nationwide in a contest when having a (D) next to your name could have voted you out.

The Arkansas governor will encounter a changed capitol in 2011.

On state level, the Republican Party picked up three of the four state constitutional offices where they fielded candidates.

Arkansas elected a Republican lieutenant governor, Mark Darr, Secretary of State Mark Martin and land commissioner John Thurston.

Republicans also made advances in the state Legislature, now holding 45 of 100 state House seats and 15 of 35 state Senate seats, having won all seven contested Senate races.

At a national level Arkansas will be sending a very different representation in January 2011.

The newly elected Republican delegation will include, Rick Crawford 1st District, Tim Griffin from central Arkansas’ 2nd District and Steve Womack from Northwest Arkansas’ 3rd District, along with the state’s new U.S. senator, John Boozman.
