LITTLE ROCK, AR -- In June, President Clinton will travel to Latin America to visit projects that are a part of the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative (CGSGI).
Established in June 2007 by President Bill Clinton and philanthropist Frank Giustra, CGSGI is an innovative partnership between the Clinton Foundation, the private sector, governments, local communities, and other NGOs, which focuses on alleviating poverty in the developing world through market-driven development that creates jobs and increases incomes, and by strengthening factors that enable economic growth, such as health and education.
During his visit, President Clinton will meet CGSGI staff and partners in Colombia and Peru, learn from their successes, and speak with individuals who are improving their lives through CGSGI programs.
The trip will highlight work in four key program areas for CGSGI: funding small- and medium-sized businesses, treating cataracts, boosting income generation, and improving childhood nutrition.
In partnership with the Fundación Carlos Slim (Carlos Slim Foundation), CGSGI recently established Fondo Acceso (Acceso Fund), a US $20 million investment fund aimed at providing emerging small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Colombia that are currently underserved by existing capital markets.
The fund will provide access to equity financing alternatives along with capacity-building assistance.
