Arkansas Minority Health Commission to hold community health events in Springdale

LITTLE ROCK --The Arkansas Minority Health Commission (AMHC) will host a community health fair on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and will host a public forum on Friday, April 23, 2010 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at The Jones Center for Families in Springdale, at 922 East Emma Avenue in the Generations Room.



The community health fair will provide free blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, bone density, BMI and waist circumference will be provided by the AARP/Walgreens Wellness Tour Bus.



Additional free screenings will be provided by the Community Clinic Northwest Arkansas and UAMS’ Spit for the Cure.



Vendors include ConnectCare, Arkansas Poison Control, UAMS College of Pharmacy; Arkansas Dept of Environmental Quality; Arkansas Forestry Commission, Community Clinic NWA; Department of Human Services, Washington County; SHIIP Arkansas Insurance Department; and the UAMS/Mexican Consulate, Esperanza y Vida Program.



Lunch will be provided to all participants.

DJ “Gris” y DJ “Chico” both stellar talent from Spanish radio “La Mas Mexicana” will provide the entertainment.



The public forum will feature special guests to include Marshallese Consul General, Carmen S. Chong Gum; Honorable Mayor Doug Sprouse; Sheriff Keith Ferguson of Benton County Sheriff's Office, Dr. Grace Donoho of the Gaps in Services Task Force; and Maria Elena De Avila, External Affairs, Gov. Office.



“The public meeting is open to the public in the Springdale area are encouraged to attend and share with the Commission what type of health services they would like to have and ask questions of their elected officials,” said Idonia Trotter, AMHC executive director.
