MIAMI, FL-- As the heated presidential campaign comes to a close, Univision’s “Sábado Gigante” (Gigantic Saturday), America’s #1 entertainment variety program on Spanish-language TV, will air interviews with both President George W. Bush and Senator John F. Kerry. As the longest-running and most popular program of its kind in this country and throughout Latin America, “Sábado Gigante” has become a vital platform for political figures. Host Mario Kreutzberger, better known as “Don Francisco,” interviews both presidential candidates on October 30 at 8pm (7 Central), the last Saturday before Election Day.
One hour of the three-hour program is dedicated to the 2004 presidential election and includes intimate interviews with the candidates, highlights the importance of voting, and presents issues of particular interest to Hispanics. Don Francisco met with Senator Kerry in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and with President George W. Bush in Washington D.C., to talk candidly about their campaigns and their thoughts on immigration, amnesty, family values and religion.
Don Francisco stresses the significance of the Hispanic vote to television viewers and the power of the Hispanic vote. For the 2000 presidential election, Don Francisco also interviewed then Vice President Al Gore and Governor George W. Bush in an effort to alert Hispanics to the importance of voting.
“Sábado Gigante” premiered with Don Francisco in his native Chile in 1962, and has aired on the Univision Network since 1986. Certified by the 2003 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s longest running variety show, today it is watched weekly by over 100 million loyal viewers in 42 countries worldwide.
