LITTLE ROCK, AR – Act 912 of the 1991 Arkansas General Assembly created the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, AMHC. The Act identifies minorities as African Americans, Hispanics, and American Indians.
On Wednesday, July 1, 2009, the Arkansas Minority Health Commission hosted a press conference at the Arkansas State Capitol Rotunda to announce the new Executive Director, Idonia L. Trotter, JD, MPS.
Trotter a native of El Dorado, Arkansas, is an experienced manager that brings a strong programmatic, community advocacy and development background to the Commission.
"The Arkansas Minority health Commission is committed to entering into communities of color to promote health prevention and screenings. The AMHC was developed to ensure all minority Arkansans have access to equal health care and to seek ways to provide education, address, treat and prevent diseases and conditions that are prevalent among minority populations," said executive director Idonia L. Trotter.
An immediate focus of the incoming AMHC director is to educate minority groups about health care issues.
Trotter within a few weeks of accepting her new position will have her first bilingual health fair and legislative forum in De Queen, AR.
Both events are schedule on Thursday, July 30 at the Community Health Center in De Queen.
A free community Health Fair will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2009 from 10:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.
With a provocative title, “Unacceptable Health For Sevier County Residents,” that evening, the Senate Subcommittee on Minority Health of the Arkansas General Assembly will hold a Legislative Meeting from 6:00p.m.to 8:00p.m.
