LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The Mexican Consulate in Little Rock donated more than 400 Spanish-language books to the Chenal Elementary School on Friday, February 27th to support children’s instruction on behalf of the Mexican Department of Education (Secretaría de Educación Pública de México, SEP).
Chenal Elementary, who houses 426 students, celebrated world cultures with each grade adopting one country during that day.
The First Lady Of Mexico in Arkansas Begona Lara de Chao directed the second graders with a Mexican song.
For 49 years the Mexican Department of Education, through the National Committee of School Books (CONALITEG), has delivered Spanish books to the Mexican consular network in the United States.
“This year the Mexican consular network will distribute almost 200 million books in Spanish to children and adults that want to learn Spanish and familiarize themselves with the culture of Mexico in this country,” said Andrés Chao Ebergenyi, Mexican Consul in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The Mexican Consulate in Little Rock is participating in this distribution for the second time in Arkansas.
