LITTLE ROCK, AR – Arkansas Democrat Mike Beebe won the Arkansas governor's race. With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Beebe had 61 percent of the vote to Republican Asa Hutchinson's 35 percent.

Beebe reminded Arkansans that no one governs alone.

He took a moment to remember the late Win Paul Rockefeller, the Republican who withdrew from the governor's race when he learned he had a life-threatening blood disease. Beebe said, “Rockefeller was a good man who cared about Arkansans.”

Beebe also told supporters he'd received a gentlemanly call from Hutchinson -- who pledged his support in moving Arkansas forward.

Beebe is the state attorney general. He served in the state Legislature for 20 years, but the governor's race was the first race of his political career. Former

President Clinton campaigned for Beebe in Arkansas last week, and Beebe's campaign raised twice as much money as Hutchinson's.

Hutchinson, who is a former congressman and federal official said, "The people of Arkansas have spoken." He said he would go about "the business of life, of family, of faith, and of service." He joked that the verdict is in and he is an “old trial lawyer” so he accepts it.

Green Party nominee Jim Lendall and independent candidate Rod Bryan collected tiny percentages of the votes.
