LITTLE ROCK, AR -- Flamenco Latino, New York’s fiery music and dance troupe, kicked off UALR’s annual Hispanic Month at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19, with a well-choreographed, beautifully costumed show in Donaghey Student Center’s Rooms A, B, and C.
The troupe combined the strength of somber Flamenco brazeo, intricate palmas, and intense footwork with their flair for the hip-swiveling movements and mean rhythms of salsa.
UALR is also offering free noontime salsa lessons on Thursday, Sept. 21, and Thursday, Sept. 28, in the DSC’s Leadership Lounge with instructor Randall Hardin of the Ballroom Co. Salsa lessons also will be offered at 7 p.m. on Thursdays Oct. 5 and 12 in the University Commons.
Other Hispanic Heritage Month activities include a Latino film Festival 7 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, Oct. 2 to Oct. 4 at the DSC. Films to be screened include No Turning Back, Rosita; S.P.I C.: The Storyboard of My Life.
Filmmaker, actor, and lecturer Jesus Nebot will participate in a box lunch discussion at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, in the DLC’s Leadership Lounge on The Hidden Truth About Immigration: Solutions Revealed. The actor, renowned in Latin America and Spain, starring in the popular television series La Loba Herida and Divina Obsesion, distributed by Warner Brothers International in over 27 countries.
