MEXICO D.F., MEXICO -- Rock music has always been important in the lives of the young. This year, rock music in Mexico is no the exception. Before the imminent presidential elections on July 2, various rock bands in Mexico created the organization Tu Rock es Votar (TREV), whose mission is to promote voting among Mexican youth.



TREV was born in August of 2005 when a group of young people between the ages of 27 and 29 created the non-profit organization. TREV does not have an agenda or political affiliation and only seeks to promote participation and civic consciousness, especially among young people, and to create solutions to the different problems that face Mexico.



"Their will be a concert tour, a short film and poster contest, conferences, and films exhibited to create debate among young people", commented Armando David Ortigosa, President of TREV.



TREV has launched a media campaign covering TV-radio-printed and alternate media utilizing to well known figures in the show business, artists, athletes and leaders of opinion of Mexico as the spokesmen of the campaign. Well known personalities have been recruited like the actors José María Yazpik, Juan Manuel Bernal, Patrician Llaca, Cecilia Suarez and Raúl Méndez; and singers such as Julieta Venegas, Ely Guerra, Alejandra Guzmán, Moderatto, Pantheon Rococó, Abulon (Victims of Dr. Brain), Natalia and the Forquetina, Phobia, Meme (of Coffee Tacvba), Plasticine Mosh, and Lu.



The idea for Tu Rock es Votar was inspired by Rock The Vote, the American non-profit that has had an important role in promoting voting among young people in the United States in previous US presidential elections.
