LITTLE ROCK, AR -- The River Market hosted the second anniversary of the "Latin American Heritage Month" in downtown Little Rock with a celebration Sunday, October 2.
Proceeds will benefit La Casa, a Latino-based service and non-profit organization that assists and advocates Arkansas' culture diversity and provides outreach programs, education and partnerships that benefit the health and education of Hispanics in Arkansas.
“Several significant Latin American anniversaries will be combined and celebrated to commemorate "Latin American Heritage Month" for numerous Latinos in central Arkansas, ” said organizer, Dr. Cesar Compadre.
The celebration commemorated the Discovery of America (Columbus Day) and the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile. The all-day event will feature typical Latin American foods, art, crafts, music and dance. The Reflejos Mexicanos dance troupe, the acoustic guitar group Conquistador, and Rondalla Centro Cristiano Hispano. Along with the live music, disk jockeys from Jose's Club Latino were featured.
Dance performances include the Conjunto Norteño from Rio Grande, Zacatecas in the afternoon.
