LITTLE ROCK, AR – This year, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra (ASO), celebrated “Cinco de Mayo” with six-time Grammy Award-winning Latin legend and one of the most recognized international artist, José Feliciano.
With a name synonymous with music, Feliciano has influenced popular music for more than two generations. “I’m delighted of the opportunity to visit Little Rock. I had been in Arkansas before, but this time, I’m coming as a performer,” Feliciano said to ¡Hola! Arkansas.
The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra arranged a private Latin festival dinner concert by José Feliciano on May 5 hosted by Opus XX Chairs Cindy and Chip Murphy. Guest had the opportunity to dine on a Mexican feast and enjoy an exclusive acoustic concert by arguably the reigning King of Latin Pop.
On May 6 and 7, the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra featured José Feliciano and his band at the Robinson Center Music Hall as part of Pops Live! V. Music Director David Itkin conducted the symphony on Friday and Israel Getzov conducted it on Saturday. José Feliciano’s Director Jimmie Haskell conducted while José performed with the ASO. Entergy, The Murphy Group and ¡Hola! Arkansas sponsored Feliciano’s performances. All proceeds from these events will benefit the music education programs of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
Feliciano who delighted the Arkansas audiences with special arrangements of recognized hits like, “Rain,” “Light My Fire,” “Niña,” “Oye Guitarra Mia”, and “Preludio Azteca,” was born blind, to humble beginnings on September 10, 1945, in Lares, Puerto Rico.
